The Carter House is  over 165 years old. The rooms are filled with history. And, this amazing home continues to write new chapters as it strives to make the past relevant. What was once a bedroom is being transformed into a reading room. This beautiful space offers you a place to do research, relax and absorb the legacy the Carter House offers. Local artists, Jim Walch and David Williams are adorning a wall of the reading room with a beautiful mural of historic, downtown Elkader.
